Panto

Now that Christmas is nearly over (so the Pennells’ reindeer tell me) it’s time to think about more important things:

Act Two’s Village Panto this year has the grandiose title – The Magical Tale of Snow White. I shall be booking tickets for the Friday Evening performance on the 26th January 2024, taking place in the village primary school. Tickets are £9.50 each and if you would like to go please let me have cash with order by December 21st, as I have to get the tickets on January 3rd.

BBC Charity Bridge Day Friday September 1st 2023 – 10am for 1030am

If you wish to book places for this year’s Charity Bridge Day – cost £20 per head – please reply to this email or see me at a Club meeting. Payment will then confirm your booking. Priority will be given to Bassingham and Heighington Club Members till the end of June, when places will then be offered to people outside of our club Membership.

Two nominations for charities were received by the end of May. It was agreed at last Thursday’s meeting that supporting the local scout group in funding a new toilet block would be this year’s charity and supporting St Barnabas Hospice would be the charity for the next Bridge Day.

As mentioned at the AGM, help from club Members would be much appreciated. If you would be willing to help in any way please mention this to a Committee member and you will then be contacted nearer the time.

Competition Results for 2022-23

In case you’re not able to get to the Annual Dinner this year (Friday April 28th), attached is a file showing the winners and runners up for the various competitions for 2022-23. Winners will receive their trophies during the evening. As has been the custom in previous years, the first drink for you and your partner at the Annual Dinner will be paid for by the Club. There are still places available at the Dinner.

Now is the time to think about those competitions you are entering for the current competition year, which started this month. Some of the competitions you are entered for automatically when you play on a Thursday:

Pairs Competition (usually second Thursday in the month)

Individual Competition (usually fourth Thursday in the month)

Slam and Ascendancy Competitions (every Thursday)

Pairs Handicap Competition (Thursdays when you play with your regular partner, but not individual night)

Two further competitions, played as teams of four, have to be entered by sending names to Pat Haslam, the Competition Secretary, by the end of this month. These are:

The League Competition

The Knockout Competition

The matches for these competitions are played in Members’ homes.

If you would like more details about any of these competitions please look on the Club website under “Competition Rules” or contact the Competition Secretary.

The Play’s the thing………….

Yes, they’re back! .

Act 2 are performing two one act plays on 1st, 2nd and 3rd of June, featuring some of the usual suspects from Bassingham Bridge Club. Seating will be arranged in tables of ten and I shall be aiming to fill at least one of them on Friday June 2nd.

The plays are called “Erica and Me” and “What’s for Pudding?” and I’m assured they should be good for more than a few laughs! Tickets are priced at £18 which includes a theatre supper. If you would like to make up a BBC table please see me at one of our bridge evenings – or contact me by responding to this email – and I’ll book you a place. I ‘ll be asking for payment before the tickets go on sale towards the end of May.

Tower Date Correction

The WI will be using the Hammond Halll on the 1st December, not as previously stated, on the 8th. So therefore bridge on the 1st Dec. will take place in the Tower. The 6th October date is unchanged. Apologies for this error.
