Competition Results for 2022-23

In case you’re not able to get to the Annual Dinner this year (Friday April 28th), attached is a file showing the winners and runners up for the various competitions for 2022-23. Winners will receive their trophies during the evening. As has been the custom in previous years, the first drink for you and your partner at the Annual Dinner will be paid for by the Club. There are still places available at the Dinner.

Now is the time to think about those competitions you are entering for the current competition year, which started this month. Some of the competitions you are entered for automatically when you play on a Thursday:

Pairs Competition (usually second Thursday in the month)

Individual Competition (usually fourth Thursday in the month)

Slam and Ascendancy Competitions (every Thursday)

Pairs Handicap Competition (Thursdays when you play with your regular partner, but not individual night)

Two further competitions, played as teams of four, have to be entered by sending names to Pat Haslam, the Competition Secretary, by the end of this month. These are:

The League Competition

The Knockout Competition

The matches for these competitions are played in Members’ homes.

If you would like more details about any of these competitions please look on the Club website under “Competition Rules” or contact the Competition Secretary.

Act 2 – Two One-Act Plays

There are still three places left on a second Bridge Club table (four at a squeeze!) for Act2’s two one-act plays on June 2nd. For more details see my original blog sent out in March. Tickets are priced at £18 which includes a theatre supper. If you wish to go please let me know asap. For those who have already booked but not yet paid, I need cash payment by Thursday 21st April at the latest as the tickets go on sale soon after that.

The Play’s the thing………….

Yes, they’re back! .

Act 2 are performing two one act plays on 1st, 2nd and 3rd of June, featuring some of the usual suspects from Bassingham Bridge Club. Seating will be arranged in tables of ten and I shall be aiming to fill at least one of them on Friday June 2nd.

The plays are called “Erica and Me” and “What’s for Pudding?” and I’m assured they should be good for more than a few laughs! Tickets are priced at £18 which includes a theatre supper. If you would like to make up a BBC table please see me at one of our bridge evenings – or contact me by responding to this email – and I’ll book you a place. I ‘ll be asking for payment before the tickets go on sale towards the end of May.

The Wrong Jacket!

Somebody at Bridge Club last night mistakenly took the wrong jacket, leaving their Jack Pack waterproof behind. Would the person concerned please contact Milly to arrange to return her jacket. Her email address is:

Tower Bridge, Christmas Closure and Panto!

First two reminders:

1. Bridge this Thursday – Dec. 1st – will be in the Tower. (The WI are using the Main Hall)

2. There will be no Bridge Club sessions on Tuesday 27th, Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th December. Normal Bassingham Bridge Club sessions will resume on Tuesday 3rd January.

Oh yes it is…… ! ………nearly……… time for the Village Panto. It has become a tradition over the years that a group from Bassingham Bridge Club goes to watch the Annual Performance. This year it is The Little Mermaid, on Friday January 27th. If you would like to go along, tickets are £9 which I will be able to buy on Friday 4th January. Since there will be no Bridge Club on Thursday 29th December I will need orders and payment by Thursday 22nd December – our Christmas Bridge Evening. You can book your tickets by replying to this email or when you next see me.

Tower Date Correction

The WI will be using the Hammond Halll on the 1st December, not as previously stated, on the 8th. So therefore bridge on the 1st Dec. will take place in the Tower. The 6th October date is unchanged. Apologies for this error.

Fifth Thursday & Bridge in the Tower

As this Thursday is the fifth Thursday of this month, people who have recently learnt to play bridge are encouraged to come along. The pace of play will be slower than normal and experienced players will be ready to encourage and give advice.

A reminder that on the 6th October and the 8th December the WI will be using the Main Hall, so bridge will take place in the Tower Room. As there is less space in the Tower, some teams arrange League Matches on these evenings.

Ravens Hall Hotel bridge break

Following on from booking our November bridge break in Scarborough Jayne and I also found a very nice venue to play at in April.

This is aimed at more experienced players but non-playing partners are welcome.

As a rough guide the break will cost about £300 per person all in but there may be a surplus for single rooms.
