Act 2 Tickets

Tickets for the two one act plays on June 1st have been obtained for all who have applied to me by email. These will be given out on Thursday of this week, when I will also collect payment of £15 per head. If you won’t be at bridge this Thursday I will also have them with me next Monday 13th and on Monday 27th and Thursday 30th. BBC will be occupying three tables; your ticket will show which table you’re on.

BBC at Act 2 – two one act plays

Many of you in the past will have enjoyed Act 2’s One Act plays with theatre supper Evenings……well they’re back!

This year’s fun-filled offerings are:

Rambles on Radio: This is a spoof on a mystery radio show. Christopher is delighted to be performing his own play on the radio with his daughter in the starring role; but others are less content with the casting. Worse still, there’s much more drama behind the microphone than is going out over the air!

A Cut Above the Rest! The over 50s Club panto group are meeting to discuss their next pantomime. Dominant organiser Jack, who writes, directs and constantly rubs others up the wrong way, has decided on drastic budget cuts, much to the consternation of established divas in the group. Jack has decided that younger people should be allowed to take part, further upsetting the status quo. The vicar’s attempts to calm troubled waters are increasingly ineffective as turmoil reigns in this one act comedy.

Tickets have already gone on sale and usually sell quickly, so if you’d like to be part of the BBC audience please let me know asap. The date will be Saturday June 1st at Bassingham Primary School (next to the Hammond Hall) and the cost is £15 per head which includes the two course supper. If tickets are limited I’ll give priority to those who contact me first. If you can’t manage the Saturday but would like to go on the Friday I will try and get tickets for that day as well – so please make it clear which day you would like tickets for.

Barry (To reply, please click on my name in the box at the foot of this email).

Table Money

Some people forgot to pay table money last Thursday – probably because it was collected before everybody arrived. I would be grateful if you would settle up when you next see me.

Bridge Club Accounts 2023-24

Attached is a copy of this year’s accounts for those unable to get to the AGM

Two points to clarify:

  1. The Curry Bridge refunds refers to those people who for various reasons did not immediately return to the Club when bridge sessions resumed after the pandemic and were therefore unable to claim their refund from the Curry Bridge Evening which had to be cancelled. When those people did not attend any further Curry Bridge evenings an email was sent out stating that if the money wasn’t claimed by March 31st this year it would be paid into Club funds. A few people did claim; the rest is what you see paid into the Club Account.
  2. The Annual Dinner Deposit of £500 was paid to the Bentley Hotel before any members’ payments were received. The Club is subsidising the meal at £5 per head. When the final invoice has been paid the balance from the deposit will revert to club funds.

If you have any further queries please contact me.

Now that Christmas is nearly over (so the Pennells’ reindeer tell me) it’s time to think about more important things:

Act Two’s Village Panto this year has the grandiose title – The Magical Tale of Snow White. I shall be booking tickets for the Friday Evening performance on the 26th January 2024, taking place in the village primary school. Tickets are £9.50 each and if you would like to go please let me have cash with order by December 21st, as I have to get the tickets on January 3rd.

The Bassingham Roy Hughes Memorial Charity Bridge Day

BBC Charity Bridge Day Friday September 1st 2023 – 10am for 1030am

If you wish to book places for this year’s Charity Bridge Day – cost £20 per head – please reply to this email or see me at a Club meeting. Payment will then confirm your booking. Priority will be given to Bassingham and Heighington Club Members till the end of June, when places will then be offered to people outside of our club Membership.

Two nominations for charities were received by the end of May. It was agreed at last Thursday’s meeting that supporting the local scout group in funding a new toilet block would be this year’s charity and supporting St Barnabas Hospice would be the charity for the next Bridge Day.

As mentioned at the AGM, help from club Members would be much appreciated. If you would be willing to help in any way please mention this to a Committee member and you will then be contacted nearer the time.

Competition Results for 2022-23

In case you’re not able to get to the Annual Dinner this year (Friday April 28th), attached is a file showing the winners and runners up for the various competitions for 2022-23. Winners will receive their trophies during the evening. As has been the custom in previous years, the first drink for you and your partner at the Annual Dinner will be paid for by the Club. There are still places available at the Dinner.

Now is the time to think about those competitions you are entering for the current competition year, which started this month. Some of the competitions you are entered for automatically when you play on a Thursday:

Pairs Competition (usually second Thursday in the month)

Individual Competition (usually fourth Thursday in the month)

Slam and Ascendancy Competitions (every Thursday)

Pairs Handicap Competition (Thursdays when you play with your regular partner, but not individual night)

Two further competitions, played as teams of four, have to be entered by sending names to Pat Haslam, the Competition Secretary, by the end of this month. These are:

The League Competition

The Knockout Competition

The matches for these competitions are played in Members’ homes.

If you would like more details about any of these competitions please look on the Club website under “Competition Rules” or contact the Competition Secretary.
