Now that Christmas is nearly over (so the Pennells’ reindeer tell me) it’s time to think about more important things:
Act Two’s Village Panto this year has the grandiose title – The Magical Tale of Snow White. I shall be booking tickets for the Friday Evening performance on the 26th January 2024, taking place in the village primary school. Tickets are £9.50 each and if you would like to go please let me have cash with order by December 21st, as I have to get the tickets on January 3rd.
Bassingham Bridge Club are holding a Charity Bridge Day in aid of the local scout group on Friday September 1st, arriving from 10am with bridge starting at 1030am. The cost is £20 per person. There will be coffee/tea and homemade biscuits on arrival, a two course lunch with a glass of wine and afternoon tea and cakes. There will also be a raffle with some good prizes.
If you would like to come, please send a cheque, payable to Bassingham Bridge Club, together with you and your partner’s names, to me at: 6, Lincoln road, Bassingham, Lincoln LN5 9HE. Please enclose your email address in order that I can confirm your places and send you your Virtual Ticket Numbers.
If you wish to book places for this year’s Charity Bridge Day – cost £20 per head – please reply to this email or see me at a Club meeting. Payment will then confirm your booking. Priority will be given to Bassingham and Heighington Club Members till the end of June, when places will then be offered to people outside of our club Membership.
Two nominations for charities were received by the end of May. It was agreed at last Thursday’s meeting that supporting the local scout group in funding a new toilet block would be this year’s charity and supporting St Barnabas Hospice would be the charity for the next Bridge Day.
As mentioned at the AGM, help from club Members would be much appreciated. If you would be willing to help in any way please mention this to a Committee member and you will then be contacted nearer the time.
In case you’re not able to get to the Annual Dinner this year (Friday April 28th), attached is a file showing the winners and runners up for the various competitions for 2022-23. Winners will receive their trophies during the evening. As has been the custom in previous years, the first drink for you and your partner at the Annual Dinner will be paid for by the Club. There are still places available at the Dinner.
Now is the time to think about those competitions you are entering for the current competition year, which started this month. Some of the competitions you are entered for automatically when you play on a Thursday:
Pairs Competition (usually second Thursday in the month)
Individual Competition (usually fourth Thursday in the month)
Slam and Ascendancy Competitions (every Thursday)
Pairs Handicap Competition (Thursdays when you play with your regular partner, but not individual night)
Two further competitions, played as teams of four, have to be entered by sending names to Pat Haslam, the Competition Secretary, by the end of this month. These are:
The League Competition
The Knockout Competition
The matches for these competitions are played in Members’ homes.
If you would like more details about any of these competitions please look on the Club website under “Competition Rules” or contact the Competition Secretary.
There are still three places left on a second Bridge Club table (four at a squeeze!) for Act2’s two one-act plays on June 2nd. For more details see my original blog sent out in March. Tickets are priced at £18 which includes a theatre supper. If you wish to go please let me know asap. For those who have already booked but not yet paid, I need cash payment by Thursday 21st April at the latest as the tickets go on sale soon after that.
Yes, they’re back! .
Act 2 are performing two one act plays on 1st, 2nd and 3rd of June, featuring some of the usual suspects from Bassingham Bridge Club. Seating will be arranged in tables of ten and I shall be aiming to fill at least one of them on Friday June 2nd.
The plays are called “Erica and Me” and “What’s for Pudding?” and I’m assured they should be good for more than a few laughs! Tickets are priced at £18 which includes a theatre supper. If you would like to make up a BBC table please see me at one of our bridge evenings – or contact me by responding to this email – and I’ll book you a place. I ‘ll be asking for payment before the tickets go on sale towards the end of May.
Somebody at Bridge Club last night mistakenly took the wrong jacket, leaving their Jack Pack waterproof behind. Would the person concerned please contact Milly to arrange to return her jacket. Her email address is: firstname.lastname@example.org
First two reminders:
1. Bridge this Thursday – Dec. 1st – will be in the Tower. (The WI are using the Main Hall)
2. There will be no Bridge Club sessions on Tuesday 27th, Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th December. Normal Bassingham Bridge Club sessions will resume on Tuesday 3rd January.
Oh yes it is…… ! ………nearly……… time for the Village Panto. It has become a tradition over the years that a group from Bassingham Bridge Club goes to watch the Annual Performance. This year it is The Little Mermaid, on Friday January 27th. If you would like to go along, tickets are £9 which I will be able to buy on Friday 4th January. Since there will be no Bridge Club on Thursday 29th December I will need orders and payment by Thursday 22nd December – our Christmas Bridge Evening. You can book your tickets by replying to this email or when you next see me.
The WI will be using the Hammond Halll on the 1st December, not as previously stated, on the 8th. So therefore bridge on the 1st Dec. will take place in the Tower. The 6th October date is unchanged. Apologies for this error.
