Single player sitting in.

Unlike many, in fact most, Bridge clubs, Bassingham accommodates single players. I have known evenings when this policy has added one and a half tables to our total and, of course, it ensures a game of Bridge for members who would otherwise be left without a game. If we have an odd number of single players, this means that one player sits in at various tables throughout the evening and a player gives way for one or possibly two boards.
Last night, we had a couple of Director calls, where the player giving way and watching, drew attention to a line of play or a rule infringement. There was no serious harm done and certainly no ill-intent. However, this is a plea, on behalf of the Directors, that any player giving way must resist the temptation to take any part in the bidding, play or defence of the hand being played. Silence is golden!
